Looking For Miracles

Someone a few days ago on hubs asked me why there are no miracles anymore. The person was not a Christian and was using this as proof of Christian’s stupidity I assume; or proof God no longer was, even if He used to be.

Well of course I know there are miracles and there have been many in my own life and I have heard of many but I had nothing at my fingertips for proof and I really felt bad about that. I guess I silently wished God could make something concrete come to mind while I was so busy I could not even give that the attention I should have. Many things since I was sixteen have come on me to overcome, some small, then some more serious; but with God’s grace and my belief that Christ's blood not only covers my soul but that His stripes were for my healing; all has always turned out well. {Mt.8:14: “Himself took our infirmities and bear our sickness.”} {Isaiah 53:5 reads, “But He was wounded (pierced) for our transgressions (sin), he was bruised (injured) for our iniquities (sins); the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”} I have lived by an almost daily reminder that by his blood I am saved (given eternal life), by His stripes I am healed. He gave both and I want both; so I claim both.

Years ago I heard about a place in some back woods country where missionaries were teaching the bible and these ignorant poor people were walking on water. Was it true? I believed it was; they did not have the things of the world to hold them back. I would have so loved to have witnessed this!

I will hurry on for those with little patience and tell you of a miracle God placed right in my lap from a friend a few days ago and I want to share that with any who want to see a real miracle no man can dispute or explain except to call this a miracle.

A young girl just shy of becoming a teen was full of tumors from stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. We can imagine what all she had been through little of which was losing her hair; but for a young girl that is much besides the treatments and pain. She was not to go around anyone, I assume because as with most diseases resistance is very low to all germs and any illness added to the present one could be very dangerous. It was Sunday morning though and she and her mother slipped into the back of a church for the service and they would slip out before the end.

There was an alter call for anyone needing prayer and naturally with this being the reason they were there really, the daughter begged they go up for prayer and so they did and knelt at the alter there. In a few minutes they rose to leave and the girl could not move with someone at her back. I naturally thought it was God when I was told this and in the long run it really was. The whole church surrounded them… praying. We are always God's instruments when we are willing.

When this young girl returned to this great place of doctors at the well known Baptist Hospital; the tumors that had been throughout her body could not be found. Three scans to make sure, but there were no tumors left. The doctors were astounded naturally.

I am sure this story that made the newspaper near where my friend lives is not the only miracle, and those of us who believe in them don’t need proof but still it is very encouraging even to us to hear these things so I have decided to look for miracles awhile.

Actually I don’t think I ever told any of you of my own miracle. Well, the biggest one anyway. When I was sixteen I was in a car accident with a head injury, broken rib and numerous deep cuts; besides internal bleeding they never found the cause of and my father made them stop looking; causing pain, and I went into a coma. They said I didn’t have a pint of blood in my body, however they know this… yet that alone was a miracle to still be living. They said that. They told Mom and Dad they did not expect me to make it through the night though. I had many praying for me and I was in a coma for two weeks but I lived…against all odds. I have a whole life and also two children, I was told not to have, to be thankful for. I am a living miracle and that has always really been all I have ever needed. Jesus has been by my side since I was a child. He is my savior and He is my closest friend and He will see me home, whenever the time comes.

To be absent from this life is to be present with the Lord. 2nd Cor 5:8.

Thank you Hyphenbird for comments, it is a beautiful story about this girl and of course there are many testimonies in churches everywhere but a non-Christian and really most Christians I would say do not go looking, so maybe I can find a few.

I think we have miracles occurring all the time, but we are blinded by our sinful natures.

Really our life is filled with them if you think about it, but we take life so for granted Will, don't you think? We can really never complain and not think of many who have it much worse, whatever it is. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you Polly for reminding me of my own miracles.

I totally avoid the the religious forums because the way they treat Christianity there.

Inspirational hub, Polly. Lovely, and inspires me to moan less, and be grateful for what I have, and to remember that I experience little miracles (or perhaps bigger than I originally thought) every day.

I don't argue religion with people, Cardisa. I know they have their choice and I put what I think out there and they can take it or leave it. I am sure even Christians (well I know so because of my tribulation hub) do not always see alike but I know the last thing God wants is for us to fight about it and today I felt my first earthquake tremor. I really think the end is closer than many may think. Thanks for visiting and I wish you many more miracles.

Hi Teresa! Glad you enjoyed it and that has gotten me through some very bad times of pains etc, thinking of those worse off and small ones who got no life. But probably they are the lucky ones, cruel as it may seem to say. They have done what we have still ahead of us. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi, Polly, This is an amazing story, how wonderful! I do believe that when people have enough faith, then that is what makes these miracles happen.

Pollyannalana profile image

Pollyannalana Hub Author 8 months ago

It is all faith but not in ourselves but the One in Whom all things are possible. Someone's faith brought healing for this girl and God says where there are two or more in My name, there am I also. Thanks for stopping by!

Polly, a beautiful testimony to faith.

As far as those who need proof, don't give it to them. It would be casting pearls before swine. Besides one does not achieve faith from proof. Faith precedes proof, and then proof becomes inconsequential.

I too have experienced great miracles and felt the grace of God embracing me.

Thanks for the comments lone77star, and the compliment. I find it so sad that people who call themselves Christians think we are a worldwide religion with all others and serve the same God and one even spoke of when Jesus became a Christian. One could almost laugh except for the terrible sadness of it.

We got the shakes here too Polly. A person that does the right things as best they can and believes in the Jesus is a real believer. And then, unfortunately we've got the Hypo-Christians. When people come together in love great things can happen. Your a special lady Polly. I like you very much and love you as a person-spirit...even if you don't like snakes..lol.

Thank you Alastar, I think a real Christian knows the difference and we don't put ourselves above anyone else but we don't back down when it come to Jesus, Who many leave out speaking of their God and the only way to heaven. I understand that spirit you speak of and there are several here I have felt have it, including you and those I call my real friends.

I was sitting here yesterday when the earth started shaking and amazingly enough I didn't feel fear, but had a quick wonder is this it? Will I be sucked into the earth? We never know, but should always live every day as the last, maybe that is the same as watching, be more enjoyable looking at it that way. Earthquakes always make me think of this little boy running back in the house to get his baby brother when one came (I can't remember where put apparently it was not an unusual thing, several years back) and they both went under just before he reached safety. He could have saved himself but you know God has them both in a special place, with arms around them. MD would ask what kind of God would do that? People need to realize who is mostly running the show on earth right now and mainly because we have let satan have control then want to blame God the Father. I don't have all or even many of the answers but all we can do is hang on until it is over and I honestly have hopes of possibly being one of the ones changed in the twinkling of an eye. Wouldn't that be wonderful? But if not it is the same destination.

Thanks for the beautiful reply Polly. The H.P. friend Spirit Whisperer said it well with " We may be on different roads but they all lead to Rome." The little boy who ran back for his brother is in good hands and so are we. In the twinkling of an eye it can happen.

You are welcome and I will check out Spirit Whisperer, in case I haven't. Sometimes I doubt myself knowing I am not good enough, and that is as bad as the ones who think they are. It is all about Jesus; who we all must hang onto for dear eternal life.

Dear Pollyannalana : I love this hub. You are right about miracles. They happen. It was wonderful that the girl lived , and became much better. About a year ago we heard that a little boy was about to die. He had cancer. They said he was just about to die. Then suddenly a miracle happened , and he got better. Mow he is in school. I always pray for miracles, and then I guess God decides when it is best to have them , or not. Fantastic hub. God Bless You.

Thank you stars, I did have the one big miracle and it seems my miracles since then have been slower with more patients, I think I have gone too long without fellowship in the word and it makes it harder on us standing alone. It is not God's timing I don't think as much as it is my amount of faith and satan of course is always there with another hurdle as soon as you cross one. It is all about overcoming and looking past our burdens to what is most important. Several years back my Mom was healed of something and I don't recall what but it was causing her much pain whatever it was and one day I showed up and she said she was healed and of course I was thrilled and asked her about it and she said she did just like I said. Well to this day I don't know what I said but I am glad I said it. I was more into bible study then almost daily and Mom was the only one who would listen so God used me there very sneaky I think, lol. Well no, it was His word and she took it because she believed but I was not about to question it. It helps our faith to fellowship though and I have not gotten back into that since Mom left me although I keep saying I will, because I think we all are going to need that more than ever very soon. Fellowship builds us up and encourages us in our faith. This girl needed someone's faith in this Church because her pain had her faith down. She knew what God could do but sometimes in our weakness we just can't go it alone and God knows that. Well as they say in my neck of the woulds I have gone from meddling to preaching.

Completely agree with you on the miracles Pollyannalana - they do exist and God does use them when He sees fit to use them. I suppose we can never be sure of when God will choose to use a miracle and we can never count or rely upon Him to do so - either way He will use any given situation for our good and to His glory, and that may mean answering prayer in a way that we may not expect. We just need to accept His answer because it is always the right one at the right time. Voted up.

Hi Pollyannalana, what a wonderful hub. I believe in miracles myself. God works in mysterious ways, and He's unpredictable. When the chips are down, God comes and turns your life around for the better.

Hi John, thanks for stopping by. I often wonder if there was a certain reason I was spared and know I do not do as much as I should. I hope there was a reason and I have fulfilled it.
