The Declaration of Independence - A Poem
67
Thomas Jefferson in 1776 drafted the Declaration of Independence
America’s most cherished enduring monument symbol of liberty
He spoke for the American people to whom this land was now owned
To have in writing, black and white the words for all nations to see
It is true he and Americans had mainly one place in mind to read
Yet it was set for us forever so there would never be any doubt
That Americans were not to be ran by a man changing the rules
If someone tried in any colony or state he would be thrown out!
Our government was not to be changed; if you can read; by any man
If one came in to cause destruction here is our right to stop him or them
It is our written right to alter or abolish for our happiness and our safety
It is our right and even our duty it says to not be destroyed on a whim
As The Declaration speaks of the man that we then saved ourself from
It sounds much like today’s leader and leaders taking our rights away
Making a mockery of our nation and individual laws in states we live
This is proof; and even orders almost; to never give in to that evil day
Refusing to assent to our law what is necessary for the public good
Forbidding governors to pass laws of importance that he will not do
This man with absolute tyranny over states blocking their rules
Invading the rights of the citizens it seems is his only goal to do
I think we could be talking about either man; the one then and now
Even to protect murderers as in a special order to not discriminate
While citizens are being killed and law cannot ask for their ID, but ours
We had better listen to Jefferson I think before it is much too late
There are too many questions and not enough answers all around
Although neither way looks promising it sure has never been this bad
With a leader preventing us from our rights pretending everything is fine
While we get closer to destruction in the most dangerous time we've had
This declaration of independence makes it clear how it should be here
No one has the right to tell us in America we are not the ones to decide
None have the right to say no to our decisions and ones we better make soon
Quickly we must stand together; it is certain that apart we are sure to divide
Certainly everyone can see we have major problems we must address now
What better time than this time with this declaration day telling us it is so right
To take our country back and live by rules that have made us envy of the world
No matter how we do it we must join strong together willing to give all for the fight

Hubpages would not allow me to put a copy of the Declaration
of Independence to bear witness to my poem because it was a duplicate, but my
poem certainly is not. I also do not see how the Declaration of Independence would belong to anyone else any more than it would me. I am a legal law abiding citizen, it was written for me.
An American attorney and
political commentator,Debbie Schlussel, who
blogs particularly on Islam and American Muslims says these British Muslim terrorists are on
trial for planning to blow up thousands of Americans on planes to the U.S.,
using liquid and battery explosives, and while on trial, FBI Director and
Minister of Pan-Islamist PC, Robert Mueller, is bragging how America will
continue to let their kind into our country, visa-free. It does not surprise me
in the least! Does anyone doubt this? How many are willing to go to their grave and all their friends and family (the whole United States) for being a political cling on?

I am so proud finding this after my hub. I hope you will listen, I hope it will bless you or change your heart if you do not know this God we share. I am preparing another hub now that will be very shocking to some, but to some we have their number. You don't want to miss this next one either I promise.

Beautiful tribute. Very patriotic piece.
This poem brings forward some very important truths that have become obscured by time. The Declaration is still the foundation of our society, and we must always be on guard with every decision made. If the declaration falls, that is the time when our society will crumble.
Thanks for bringing this forward!
Polly - That was wonderfully written. The US Constitution has been used as a model by many nations wish to set up a democracy. Not once in the reading though will you find the word democracy. This nation is a Republic of sovereign states.
The role of the federal government is intended to be a "limited" role. It's written right there for anyone to read. We now see what we see which IMHO is approaching tyranny once again.
The federal apparatus wants to guide our every move, tell us what we can or cannot eat, what we can grow or cannot, how our children are to be educated (poorly by what I am seeing) and tax us without adequate representation.
The current administration should red flag people. It would if the people bothered to read. The latest move by the progressives is to consider having Obama bypass Congress in raising the debt ceiling using the 14th Amendment. He should be advised, if he pursues that course of action, that the US Constitution also has procedures in effect that allow for removal of the chief executive of this nation.
I read a lot of what you wrote between the lines there. Excellent Polly. In fact superb.

Polly,
Beautiful poem. You certainly have talent. I worry if the next generation will even have to study about the Founding Fathers in their history classes.
I'm not sure why HP continues to harrass you. Maybe you should contact them and ask what exactly are you doing wrong. The Declaration of Independence belongs to all Americans. How can they worry about duplicate content in this regard? My uncle's letters are also duplicate content. Why have they not canned my Letters Home series? I don't know.
