To Your Health? Raw Meat/ Worth the Risk?

By

Raw Meat/ Yum Yum

To most people eating raw meat is an invitation for food poisoning or Salmonella. Some are on a raw meat diet claiming that is the healthiest way to eat. Most of us have grown up avoiding raw meat, always seeing that it is cooked properly for fear of getting sick, washing everything it touches and our hands and it seems a real fear.
Now though, a new diet craze has popped up that encourages people to eat their meat raw. Celebrities including Demi Moore, Uma Thurman, Natalie Portman and Gordon Ramsay eat raw meat to lose weight and stay healthy with more energy. Being a raw meat eater usually includes eating only foods that is unprocessed, undomesticated, contain no chemicals or additives, and have not been subject to any genetic engineering. Your diet will be mainly organic fruit and vegetables, limited dairy products, organ meats, eggs, and then meats; raw, aged, fermented meat and fish.

Included in raw animal food diets are any food that can be eaten raw, such as uncooked, unprocessed meats, eggs, raw dairy, and aged, raw animal foods such as rotting meat, fish, shellfish, as well as vegetables, fruits, nuts, sprouts from many things, but no raw grains, raw beans, raw soy, etc., because of digestion.. Raw foods on such diets have not been heated at temperatures above 104 °F. Raw meat eaters believe that a food cooked above this temperature has lost most of its nutrition and will harm the body. Ones on this diet usually choose to get their meats from free ranging and grass fed animals, doing away with risks of damaging bacteria. Grass fed animals also contains more nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, and omega 3’s.

Well if you are interested in this there are many books on the market and I am sure much to find online. I am also sure anyone interested may not want to hear about my cats but it appeared important to me as I read about these raw meat eaters, and it could go either way proving this diet. I have never eaten raw meat, period but since they do studies on animals I can tell you of the experience of my cats with raw meat that may help you decide.

.
All my life I have had cats and for many years only white ones and they only lived to be 4 or 5 and that seemed right to me, that like is kind of old in human years.Well it always had been around that age they were no more, although I try not to remember specifics of all their deaths I do remember their lives. Also I had white cats which I heard many years ago were prone to die younger, but the one thing I never heard mentioned and I noticed was, how rare it was for my cats to never have kittens, which was OK by me but in all of them and I had many. I think I got one litter. Also another strange thing was sometimes they seemed pregnant, that had the bellies get big and I would be sure I could feel movement but no, they never had them.

Well the last one before my Lilly I have now we took to the Vet because she was becoming huge and never having kittens and this was too weird, and we could tell not well. He said that she had indeed been pregnant but instead of having these babies they had turned to tumors and she got the death sentence so we just let him put her to sleep.

The one thing different in those white cats and my white Lilly is that after that I read do not feed your cats raw meat so I never did give Lilly any and all my other cats loved ground beef most of all although I am sure they may have had chicken parts I cut away etc, they just all loved ground beef and before I made it into patties they always got a good hand full. They lived 5 years at most and I am sure they all had those tumors looking back, thinking they were with kitten but they never had them.

They did all hunt and eat wild meat as did Lilly for many years but for the last couple of years I think she is past the chase although she still has her playful days.

So could it have been that processed hamburger with who knows what is in it (that even I no longer eat) and raw meat that man had messed with caused those cats problems and earlier death?

Has Lilly lived longer at sixteen now even with years living with her allergy problems still alive because she had no man handled processed meat even though she did eat quite a few little rabbits (that was her favorite) and a few birds?

So maybe that proves you can have raw meat if you follow all the right rules, even then I would have to raise my own not trusting claims of any kind but I think I will pass on that one, although I have eaten oysters nearly raw but hot so probably safe enough and of course I am for raw veggies.

Today is my smoothie and green tea making day. Surely that has to help. To each his own.

When my father was younger, he used to eat raw meat all the time. He used to mix salt, pepper, onions and cracker crumbs with raw ground beef, and I remember eating it when I was young.

I am not an animal expert and the cat pregnancy-turning-to-tumors sounds so bizarre. What an odd way to die. I would not have guessed that could happen.

These are very interesting slice-of-life stories, thanks for sharing the memories.

I just can't think why anyone would want raw meat but I assume at one time it was all eaten raw, for my part i would rather eat none except maybe fish, tuna, etc. I can't prove but the last cat I fed raw meat to and she had tumors but the others did seem to get with kittens but never had any so I just have to wonder, and as I say I have a white cat now, no raw meat other than what she caught and she had two litters til fixed and no tumor problems and sixteen is a ripe old age for a cat. Mainly she has dry Friskies or/and tuna. She is the only cat I ever owned that will not drink milk either. I always fixed up a warm bowl for my cats in winter when they come in on cold days, and she also prefers rain water over faucet water, not that that surprises me. Oh and thank you, I could go on and on forever, lol.

I just don't want to kill. I am told to pray the Lord's Prayer. When I pray this prayer I am praying that this Earth will resemble what heaven is to be.

In my heaven I do not want to hit an animal in the head, cut it up, get blood all over me, etc.

IF- there is any truth in the Bible - Jews and Christians Muslims, etc. tell me there is - there were no carnivores in the Garden of Eden. As a matter of fact, even after the great flood and God gave man permission to eat meat (had to be cooked), Daniel, Shadrach, Meshack, and Abenego were the best warriors and were vegetarians. Our bodies were never meant to digest meat at all. Folks say we have those "canine teeth" for something though. Was it sugar cane? There are lots of foods we could eat that we could appreciate those canine teeth with besides meat. Bottom line- our intestines are not for digesting meat. Now- let the meat-eaters ascend upon my words that aren't mine at all. Thank you Polly!

I see where you are coming from and I stay away from meat for the most part other than fish and sea foods, Jesus went fishing and fed multitudes fish so it must be OK but even that bothered me because if you caught fish with my dad you had to clean them and I did learn but even that bothered me, and jeepers, I would rather do that than have a fish on my plate looking back at me as many cooks prepare it! With waters the fish live in today who can really even trust that? And I guess everyone knows by now I say what I want to, they have their opinions I have mine, why does it bother people so that you don't think as they do and if they are afraid meat sales will fall then maybe they will make someone clean up their act so we know what we eat is safe! You can't even trust vegetables anymore, something is drastically wrong! Who would imagine they would feed cows meat and all that other gunk causing mad cow...idiots trying to save a dime and should never be allowed to have another animal, period! I will not eat it ever again! If people raise their own I am sure they are more careful but I trust no one but you Micky and sometimes I wonder about you....lol..joking.

I think eating raw meat is dangerous. It has to be eaten after proper processing and adding fla ours, that make much tasty. Thanks for SHARING :)

A friend that my husband worked with died of intestinal cancer and my husband always blamed it on the raw hamburger he ate. It could have been caused by that.

Thank you Trsmd, I totally agree.

Barbara Kay - It very well could have been. I don't thing humans should have blood from anything whether the meat comes into it or not and probably the meat does too.
